How far in advance should I book my Session?
As soon as you know that you’d like to schedule a custom Photography Session, I would recommend that you contact me so that I can get you on my calendar. I photograph part-time and I accept a very limited number of Sessions each month – summer, fall, and weekend dates book up quickly and I usually schedule 1 to 2 months in advance.
What can I expect from our Session?
First and foremost, it’s important to me that you and your loved ones have fun and feel comfortable while being photographed. My goal is document your story, at this place in time, in a beautiful, natural way.
Prior to our Session, we will discuss (via email, phone, or in person) what you’re visualizing and I’ll answer any questions you may have on how to style and prepare for your Session.
Bring your creative ideas – I’m happy to incorporate them and I would love your input! If there is a particular image (or many images) on my blog that you love, let me know.
Please also let me know what your plans are for your images, whether it be wall displays (canvas or prints), albums, online image gallery, cards, or announcements.
Once we settle on a location, date, and time, I will send you a link to my Portrait Session Agreement and Questionnaire, which you can sign online.
Where should we have our Session?
I photograph on-location, primarily outdoors. If there is a location that holds special meaning or significance to you, please let me know! Otherwise, there are many great spots around Whatcom and Skagit County that I can recommend, depending of the style of session that you’re visualizing (i.e. beach, park, urban/downtown, abandoned buildings, barns, golden fields, etc.).
What time of day should we schedule our Session?
For the softest, most beautiful light, I prefer to schedule all of my Sessions in the early morning or 1 ½ – 2 hours before sunset. To find the local sunrise/sunset times, please click here
What if it’s raining on our scheduled Session date?
As we all know, the weather can be unpredictable here in the Pacific Northwest. I photograph on-location, primarily outdoors, so if the weather prevents me from capturing the best possible images for you OR if there is a possibility that you and your loved ones will be uncomfortable (wet, cold, etc) in the outdoor elements, we will need to reschedule.
On the days leading up to your Session, I will closely monitor the forecast. If there is a possibility of inclement weather (rain, wind, or if it’s just really cold outside), I’ll reach out to you so that we can make a decision about rescheduling.
What is your Session cancellation policy?
Life, like our weather, can be unpredictable! I understand that circumstances may happen outside of your control (sickness, etc) so please contact me as soon as possible if you need to cancel and reschedule your Session.
What should I wear?
◊ I recommend utilizing Pinterest for outfit ideas; please review my Pinterest “What to Wear” style guide for inspiration
◊ Be yourself – wear something that makes YOU feel good
◊ Comfortable clothes that you can sit, stand, and run around in
◊ Coordinating (not matching) solid, simple colors with texture
◊ Accessories such as necklaces, jackets, hats, headbands, scarfs, fancy shoes/boots, etc
Session-specific Planning Tips
Children/Family: I realize that the concept of a child or family session may seem stressful but I want you to enjoy the experience and have fun! Please don’t worry about your kids looking or acting perfect – kids will be kids and it’s my job to capture the real moments! With that in mind, I recommend that have your kids fed and well-rested before our Session. Please also bring along a favorite toy or two, which I may use to hold their attention during their photographs.
Maternity: The best time to schedule your Session is within your 3rd trimester.
What happens after our Photography Session?
Following your Session, I will carefully select the best images for editing. Your final images will be ready and uploaded to your Personal Online Image Gallery within 4 weeks after our Session.
Important: Please let me know in advance if you’d like for me to hold off on posting any images to social media until a later date (i.e. after Holiday Greeting Cards are sent, etc).
Where should I print my images?
In order to preserve the correct color tones and image quality, I recommend:
Artifact Uprising, Mpix, or Quicksilver Photo Lab (Bellingham-based local business).
Professional Gallery Wrap Canvases and Specialty Items are also available – please inquire for pricing.
